Control Inactive System Tray Icons

Posted by Unknown On 7:21 AM | No comments
You don't have to hide or show all the icons in your system tray—you can control their disappearing acts. Right-click on the taskbar and select Properties. Click on the checkbox next to "Hide inactive icons" (if it's not checked by default), then click on the Customize button. For each item on this list, you can choose "Hide when inactive," "Always hide," or "Always show" options to decide what you'll see and when.

Shut Down from Your Desktop

Posted by Unknown On 7:16 AM | No comments
If you're trying to eliminate every extraneous mouse click, you can shut down your computer with an icon on the desktop. Right-click on your desktop, click "New," and then click "Shortcut." In the "Type the location of the item" field, type "shutdown -s -t 00" to give you a way to shut down the computer immediately. (Change the -s to -r to create a reboot shortcut instead.)

Fit More Icons on Your Desktop

Posted by Unknown On 7:13 AM | No comments
If your screen is so cluttered with Word documents and program shortcuts that you can't see the rolling meadows of your wallpaper, you don't need to move piles of stuff to the Recycling Bin. Just change the amount of space between icons. Right-click on the desktop, select Properties, then click on the Appearance tab, and click the Advanced button. In the "Item" drop-down, scroll down to Icon Spacing (Horizontal) and Icon Spacing (Vertical); changing the value in the "Size" field will move icons closer together (while increasing the number will move them farther apart). When you're done, click OK. To make your existing icons follow these rules, right-click on the desktop, select "Arrange Icons By" and then click Align to Grid, then go back to the same menu and click "Auto Arrange."

How to update Google+ Posts via SMS

Posted by Unknown On 6:43 AM | No comments
Google has introduced a nice feature called Google+ SMS. With this new feature you can very easily update your post on Google+ circles. Google+ SMS is very simple usable feature and doesn't need any extension or third-party app.

In other words it can be said “use Google+ offline”. I am saying this because there is no need of internet connection to use this feature, you can access the needed part of Google+ through your mobile text messaging. Check our previous articles related to Offline use:

To use Google+ SMS feature, you will have to activate this service on your mobile phone. once the service is activated on your mobile then you can freely use the various things of Google+ like Share post publicly or with a circle, +1 a post, Comment on a post, Take help, Turn Google+ SMS ON or OFF just by sending command through your mobile text message. Here’s how;

How to Activate the Google+ SMS feature
Step 1: Firstly, go to your Google+Settings page.

Step 2: Under the Notification delivery level, Click on Add phone number option.

Step 3: Select your country then enter your Phone number and just click on Send verification code button.

Step 4: Now you will receive an instant SMS from Google with six digit pin code.

(SMS you will receive like: your Google verification code is 608219.)

Step 5: So, enter the verification code in your Google+ settings page and simply click on Confirm button.

Step 6: That’s it! Now you have connected your mobile number with Google+ account. You will get a special number from Google that you have to use to start posting updates through SMS.

To updates your Google+ post, you have to send SMS as usually you do. But here you have to enter the special number provided by the Google and write your text and simply send. For the example, a screenshot is shown below:

Now, as the Google+ SMS server will receive your SMS then it will instantly update your post in Google+.

Google+ commands that you can use:
If you wish to Share a post publicly then you have to Add +public to your post.
If you want to Share a post with a circle then you have to Add +circle name to your post.
If you wish to +1 a post then you have to Reply +1.
If you want to Comment on a post then you have to Reply with your comment.
To get help from Google you have to Reply Help.
By any reason if you wish to Turn Google+ SMS ON or OFF then simply Reply with Start or Stop.

Note: These all commands are available in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Hebrew, Swahili, Indonesian, and Thai.
Previously people were feeling too much difficulty in sharing large files over the internet but after increasing the free storage capacity of Google drive from 5GB to 15GB, people are sharing large files easily and along with extremely happiness.

This is the first time, when any cloud storage service provided such a huge free storage space of 15 GB. Google provides us 15 GB of free storage to share files between Google Drive, Gmail and Google+ Photos.

When Google was not offering the 15 GB of free storage, then people were forced to pay money on various cloud storage services for sharing the files larger than 5GB over the internet. But now with the Google drive’s free storage, you can freely store and share large files up to 15GB in size, which is sufficient for us.

Interesting thing with Google drive storage is, you can set permissions for specific people and also allow for who can access the files on your Google drive storage. Simple it can be said that all thing will under your control and you can share photos, songs, videos and many other files with your friends or relatives accommodatingly. Let’s know how to upload and share large files from your Google drive storage.

How to Share Large Files Using Google Drive storage :

Step (1): Firstly, go to Google drive and sign in with your Google account.
Step (2): Click on the upload icon and select the file (photos, videos, data or other file etc) which you wish to upload.

Step (3): When uploading will be completed, your file will be added to your Google drive storage. Now make a right click on the file and select Share option and then click on Share sub-option as shown in below screenshot.

Step (5): If you wish to share the file privately with anybody then type in the email address of the person in the given input box and then click on Share & Save button.

Step (6): And If you wish to share your file as a downloadable link, then make a click on the Change button which is situated just beside Private – Only you can access.

Step (7): After clicking on Change button a pop will appear as shown below. You have to select Anyone with the link option and then click on Save button.

Step (8): Now copy the provided URL address and share it with your friends or families according to your wish.

That’s it!

Now with this link anybody can freely download the file. Interesting thing is, there is no need of Google account to download this shared file.

Understand How Google works

Some people think that Google reads and copies all of your website into its memory, but it actually only takes an impression of your website. People think that because the search engine shows a snippet of the web page in the results that it actually has all of their pages in its index, but it does not.

Google has its bots read your page and then it adds details about your page into its index. It then uses what it reads to rank your page but still does not take down lots of details. It may go to the extent of storing snippets, but that is it. When your page appears on the results and you can see the bit of text from your page underneath the link--that is auto generated when the results are listed.

This means that you are not actually removing your content from the Google search engine at all. All you are doing is removing your link to your website from the Google search engine results pages. You can make it so that the Google search engine results do not work for your website if you wish, as there is no need to worry about them holding all content of your website on their servers.

Delete the page that you have listed on the search engine

The easiest way to stop Google from listing your website is to write in code that asks the Google bots not to index the page. You may delete your content or change your content on the page and Google will not update its index to match.

Furthermore, if you want to cut off the Google contact all together then just delete the page (the URL) and Google will eventually remove the link to the website page from its index. Even if people click on the link in the search engine results it will just lead to nowhere.

Redirect from the page you have listed on the search engine

Instead of deleting the page on your website, you can set up a redirect. This will make it so that anybody who clicks on your Google search engine result link will be redirected to wherever you send them. It is a way of avoiding Google seeing what is on your page and stops people landing on that page from the search engine results.

Change the page content and Meta data and wait

If there is something about the page that you do not like and do not want being shown on Google, then just change the page. Change the content of the page and all of the Meta data (including page title, etc) and then wait. At first your page and its Meta data will still appear on the Google search engine results.

If people click the link on the results then it will still take them to the new page, but on the results it may show old Meta data. After a while (anywhere up to two months if you are already indexed) your page will be read again by Google and the data on their index will be updated. The search engine results will start to show your new Meta data and will start to show snippets from your most recent version of the website.

Use the Google Webmaster Tools removal tool

You can find full details on the use of this tool from here, but as a rule you should only use the removal tool in emergencies. It is not a tool that Google wants you playing with or using too often. Even on the tool pages themselves they say that if you remove the page or the contents then the result will be dropped. Plus, if you think of how hard it was to get your web page ranked up in the first place then you should appreciate how quickly your page will drop from the result if it is changed in a certain way.

As a side note, it is almost impossible to remove the site of another website from the results unless you are the administrator of the website. Trying to get content removed from other websites is a problem that a lot of people go to Google about and they will simply not remove the content unless you control the website.

Recently a month ago, Facebook introduced 'Save' feature on facebook which is really appreciable and people found this feature very useful.

Basically, save option on facebook is a read-it-later option which allows user to save the links on facebook and read it later when needed.

Many people think - what's the use of "Save" option on facebook?

The answer is, Save option will help you when you come online on facebook just for a while to see your wall and found some very interesting or important links but due to lack of time you are unable to check out them. In this situation, you can save those links and check them later when you have free time.

As we all know, Facebook manage posts on your wall according to their algorithm. It means, you will be not able to see the same links or posts on your wall few minutes / hours later. So, this is really very difficult to find old posts on your facebook wall. But thanks to Facebook Developers team, we have this 'Save' feature to help us.

Today in this tutorial, i will show you how you can save and view links on Facebook to read later (on Desktop & laptop or on IOS & Android phone). Here's the step by step guide:

How to Save and View links on the Web
At first, login to your facebook account by using Email ID and Password.

Now, if you found any useful links or post which you want to read later then from the news feed click the arrow sign and select the option of "Save" as shown in below screenshot.

The links has saved to read later. Now whenever you wish to view your saved links / posts, click on the "Saved" link available under the Favorites section and you will be able to see your all saved pages.

Now, read the saved links or post according to your wish.

Email Address Hack

I have always been puzzled by Facebook's leniency in this matter. All a hacker needs to do is know your email address and he will be displayed  a confirmation showing your name even if he enters the wrong password. How easily a hacker can then hack your Facebook account if he 'guesses' your password (if you use a weak password) or answers your security question! This is something I hope Facebook improves on quickly. Until Facebook does so, here are some tricks you can use to protect yourself from this vulnerability.

How to safeguard your Email Address?
Just follow these steps:-

  1. Hide your Email Address from everyone by going to Edit Profile>Contact Information>Clicking on the icon beside your email address> checking 'Only Me'.
  2. Change your primary email address to a one that is only known to you by going to Account Settings>Email> and changing your primary email to the new one (known only to you) and removing your previous email address.
  3. For additional security, when in Account Settings, check 'Secure browsing' and 'Send me an email when a new computer or mobile device logs into this account' and click Save.

Keylogging through Keyloggers

Keylogger is a type of computer virus that tracks key strokes. Keyloggers can be installed remotely on a computer system by a cracker to record all the activity that is going on the victim's computer. Keylogging gets more easy if the hacker has physical access to the victim's computer.

How to stop keyloggers?
Install a good antivirus and update it frequently. Do not click on suspicious links and avoid downloading illegal software. Also, avoid installing free toolbars and other such spam software. Always scan third-person's flash and pen drives before using them on your computer.

Security Tips

Posted by Unknown On 7:11 AM | No comments
Run programs on an infected PC Often times, malware will prevent a computer from running certain programs. Changing the name of the .exe file can often override this. If that doesn’t work, changing the extension to .com is another useful alternative, and the program will still be able to run in spite of the extension change.
Read installers Even major programs can install toolbars and other unwanted pieces of software during installation. Take a few seconds to read each step to make sure you are not agreeing to install something other than the program you were actually seeking. Far too often people just push next over and over, and end up with a browser covered in various search bars that just aren't needed. In the worst of scenarios, these can have nefarious intentions.
Lock your computer if you get up Sick of your "friends" going onto your computer at work or home and posting things on your Facebook/Twitter page on your behalf? It’s certainly an annoyance, but an easy one to prevent. Windows + L will lock your system right away, requiring a password (if you've set one) to log in again.

File Management Tricks

Posted by Unknown On 7:11 AM | No comments
Rename a file quickly Right-clicking and selecting rename is not very efficient. Instead, simply press F2 while a file is selected to change its name. To alter the name of another file, type TAB without deselecting the current file.
Rename files sequentially in Windows You actually don’t need to download any programs to perform a batch file rename in Windows. Instead, you can select all the files you want to change, right-click the first one in the list, select rename (or use F2), and type in the name. This will automatically change all the other files with the same root name with a suffix: (1), (2), and so on.
Select multiple files using the keyboard To select a bunch of files using your keyboard, you can press Shift + down arrow to select a single file or Shift + Page Down to select a large group of files at one time.

Web Browsing Tricks

Automatically add www. and .com to a URL You can shave off a couple of seconds typing in a URL by simply click CTRL + Enter after you type the name of the site. Need .net instead of .com, press CTRL + Shift + Enter instead.

Jump to address bar There are a number of ways to jump right to the address bar from anywhere in browser. Pressing CTRL + L, F6, and ALT + D all accomplish this goal.
Bring back a closed tab We covered this already, but it's super useful. Accidentally closed a tab? Simply press CTRL + Shift + T to reopen the most recently closed tab and get back to what you were doing.
Use private browsing The uses for not having cookies and history saved are obvious for certain activities, you know, like shopping for gifts on a shared computer (of course!). Pressing CTRL + Shift + N will launch a new private in Chrome, CTRL + Shift + P will do it in Firefox and Internet Explorer.
Cycle through open tabs Pressing CTRL + TAB while in a browser will flip between each one. This can be much faster than moving the mouse and clicking on a tab. CTRL + NUM (1, 2, 3, 4, n..) will also take you to certain tab in that numeric order.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Copy only active window to clipboard Normally, the Print Screen key copies the entire display (or two displays if you got them), ALT + Print Screen only copies the currently active window to the clipboard. Whether taking a screenshot to diagnose a problem, or just because you want to show something to a friend, this will come in handy.
Fix those little mistakes Did you know you can undo almost any action? CTRL + Z is the ultimate hot key, and for sure you knew about it already, however note that undo doesn’t just apply to typing. If you accidentally delete or move a file, you can hit CTRL + Z to bring it right back to where it was. In Chrome and Firefox you can also undo closing a tab using CTRL + SHIFT + T.
Cycle through open windows Pressing ALT+TAB allows you to cycle through currently open windows. This makes switching back and forth between running processes quick and painless. If you want a more stylish method of cycling through open programs, Windows + TAB will do the job for you.
Interrupt all processes CTRL + ALT + Delete is one of the most common PC shortcuts, and one almost everyone is familiar with. The important thing to note is that it interrupts all processes, including the one that is bogging down your system, which can mean the difference between needing to restart or not.
Close the current program Typing ALT + F4 will close the program that is running. This is useful as it saves you time mousing over the "X" and clicking. People will often use this as a joke, telling you to press ALT + F4 to fix a problem. Don’t fall for it unless you want to close what you are doing.
Minimize all windows Sometimes you have a bunch of stuff running, and you want it all to go away so you can get to the desktop. Simply pressing Windows + D will minimize everything you have up, which will save you some time pressing the minimize button for each window. It should be noted that Windows + M offers similar functionality, but there is no undoing, so Windows + D is the more favorable approach.
Open the task manager directly If you want to bypass the interrupt that happens when pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL and jump right to the task manager, typing CTRL + Shift + ESC launches it directly.
Close the current window/tab Stick of moving all the way to that X button? Press CTRL + W and the current window will close. (Don’t do it now, or you will miss the rest of the tricks!)
Bring up the system information window This is so much quicker than digging this out the traditional way... Just press Windows + Pause/Break and the System Information panel will be ready to go. This might be the only use for the Pause/Break key you will ever find, so enjoy it!
Better multiple monitor control There are several useful keyboard shortcuts for controlling open windows on multiple monitors. Pressing the Windows Key + Arrow Keys will cause a window to quickly snap to each side of either monitor. Alternatively, hitting Shift + Windows Key + Arrows will cause the window to jump to the other monitor. Lastly, pressing Windows + P will allow you to quickly set up a second display or projector.

Typing Tricks

Delete an entire word Instead of deleting a single letter, pressing CTRL + BKSP will delete the entire word behind the cursor. This makes deleting text quicker if you screw up a whole word.
Move Cursor to beginning of the next or previous word Moving the cursor around manually while typing is a great way to make your work take longer than it needs to. To speed of the process, move the cursor around with keyboard shortcuts. To move it to the beginning of the previous word, use CTRL + Left Arrow. To move it to the beginning of the next word, use CTRL + Right Arrow. In OS X you can accomplish the same using the Option key.
Making sub and superscript text If you need to make sub or superscript text (think exponents for superscript), press CTRL + = for subscript and CTRL + SHIFT + = for superscript.
Paste plain text of what was copied When you copy text from any source, programs will usually copy any formatting that comes with it. To paste this as plain text, press CTRL + Shift + V instead of the standard CTRL + V, and the system will paste unformatted text.
Note that many programs follow this parameter (Chrome, Firefox, etc.) but not all, particularly Microsoft programs like Word or Outlook. For those there's a few alternatives that go beyond copying and pasting in Notepad: 1) CTRL + ALT + V will show a 'paste special' dialog box. 2) CTRL + Spacebar will remove formatting in already pasted text. 3) Download Puretext and choose a hotkey to always paste plain text with it.
